This coming 27th April Sunday, John Will, BJJ black belt under the Machado brothers will again be in Singapore for a BJJ seminar. This marks the third time we are having John Will. His past 2 seminars were tremendously well-received.

John Will, one of the first 12 non-Brazilians black belts in BJJ (the Dirty Dozen), has the ability to strip techniques to bare essentials. Practitioners of any level will definitely benefit immensely.

Kudos to our Kreation members who competed in the recent grappling tournament held on 30 March, Sunday. Commendable fighting spirit to step up and represent Team Kreation and The Budo Academy. and CONGRATULATIONS to the winners! Our team was represented by 5 competitors (Sulaiman, Aziz, Hongjie, Sherwin and Rayner) and walked away with the following medals:
- Sulaiman was placed 1st in the Blue belt openweight gi event.
- Aziz was placed 1st in the white belt under 77kg bjj gi event
- Aziz was also placed 1st runner-up in under 77 no gi grappling.
- Sherwin was placed 2nd runner-up in the white belt under 88kg bjj gi event.
- Hongjie was placed 2nd runner-up in the white belt under 77kg bjj gi event.

Personally, as a spectator and one of the fellow Kreation members who were there to lend moral support to our fighting team mates, the event is filled with many highlights for me:
- Sul's and Aziz's outstanding performances.
- Hongjie bouncing from a loss and finishing his next fight in 6 seconds.
- Rayner pulling off an armbar after trailing by points. The fight is not over till it's over. :P
- Cristiano and Vicknesh speaking up for Aziz over a questionable foul committed against Aziz.
some thoughts:
It was interesting for me to witness not only the grappling standards of the people who participated, but also the different manners in which people conduct themselves, on and off the mats.
The event has also been a good day of bonding for our team. Thanks to: - those who took footage/pictures of the fights, - those who bought beer for one another, - those who kept track of time and scores for the fighters, and - those who cheered and lent a voice louder than thunder when the situation called for it.
It's a shame Sherwin popped his shoulder and will have to stay off the mat for a while. Speedy recovery dude!
Our pursuit of the art doesn't end in one tournament. Let's continue to train hard. cheerios!

Sulaiman's final fight against Morioka Yu of Alive Academy:
Last saturday after class, a bunch of us adjourned to Steve's place for an impromptu bbq. It was a relaxing time of getting together and chatting away while munching on hotdogs, chips, and gulping down some beer.
The 5 day event was held at Budo Academy, Singapore. Participants came from around the region.
Rodney King spearheaded the MMA coaching and striking element. Rodney offered over the weekend, on top of the normal retreat package, the GOLD package for those interested in fine-tuning their striking game at a more personal level. Over the course of the 5 days, he also conducted the Crazy Monkey instructor programme.
As for the grappling/jiu-jitsu element, it was conducted by none other than the walking legend Rigan Machado! This is a major highlight for the star-struck grappling enthusiasts who participated.
The retreat was great. A lot was shared and imparted. We look forward to the 2008 retreat!

Grappling Circuit 2007, organised by Kreation Jiu Jitsu, was held at Budo Academy on the 30th of September 2007, sunday.
The event saw a good turnout of participants from different Martial Art backgrounds, representing various prominent academies in Singapore. The rules were grappling rules similar to those of ADCC's.
The competition was fierce as competitors pitted their grappling prowess against one another, all in the spirit of great sportsmanship. The spectators were very good sport as well, as they cheered loudly, not only for their own team-mates but also for those from different schools.
Kudos to the participants for their sportsmanship and congratulations to all the winners. Grappling Circuit 2007 was a success, as agreed by locals and foreign visitors alike. Special thanks to Sulaiman who planned and organised the event. Kreation looks forward to a higher turnout and improved competition the next time round. See you there!
Over the weekend, Kreation hosted John Will's second seminar in Singapore at Budo Academy. This 2 day seminar has proven fruitful to us. John Will's concise teaching, though can be described as regimental, is so effective that it ensures everyone keeps in pace and no one is left behind. His insights to Jiu-Jitsu, his wealth of experience and his humourous anecdotes have made this seminar such an enjoyable and a true experience. We had a great time and we look forward to his next visit!
Retreat 2006 with Rodney King and John Will was a resounding success. The participants had many opportunities to improve their skill in the 5 day seminar. The stand-up striking segment was conducted by Rodney King while the grappling component was conducted by John Will. We look forward to continuing this as a regular fixture next year!
